The Ph.D. Program in Austronesian Studies, College of Humanities at National Taitung University is thrilled to welcome Dr. MITSIDA Yayoi as the newest member of our faculty. Dr. Mitsida begins her position with us as Assistant Professor of PAS on 1st August, 2022.

Dr. Mitsida's research interests involve in cultural and social anthropology, gender, shaman studies, subaltern studies and colonial history of Taiwan, and mainly focus on the relationships between cultural practices of indigenous society, especially Thao people, and the government. Her recent research has two main directions: 1) Subaltern studies: What is the power and strategies of Taiwanese indigenous population as the subaltern? 2) Endangered languages: Is an endangered language like Thao still an effective indicator of ethnic identity?
